Replacement
Replacing a system, only when it is time
A repair comes first. When a system keeps failing, we size a new one from a load calculation and put the whole scope in a written quote.
Scope
Every line of work, so nothing is assumed.
Equipment by model
The outdoor unit and the air handler, named exactly.
Permit
Most Houston-area cities need one. The quote says who pulls it.
Haul-away
The old system leaves with us, and the quote says so.
Warranty terms
What is covered, for how long and what you register.
How long it holds
The quote says how long the figures are good for.
Repair or replace
How we think about it
| Look at | Replacing makes sense when | Repair makes sense when |
|---|---|---|
| Age | Replacing makes sense whenIt is past roughly 12 to 15 years | Repair makes sense whenThe system is well under its expected life |
| Repair size | Replacing makes sense whenOne repair costs a large share of a new system, and others are likely | Repair makes sense whenThe repair is small next to a new system |
| Refrigerant | Replacing makes sense whenIt runs on R-22, which is no longer made, and needs more | Repair makes sense whenThe system holds its charge after the repair |
| Comfort | Replacing makes sense whenRooms stay hot, the system short-cycles or the bills keep climbing | Repair makes sense whenRooms cool evenly and the unit simply broke |
Questions about replacing
How is the new system sized?
From a load calculation of your house: rooms, windows, insulation and ducts. The tonnage on the old unit is not the answer.
Do you replace the ducts too?
Only if they need it. We look at them and say so in the quote, as a separate line.
Can you replace a system at night?
Replacements are scheduled in the day. At night we repair or set up a temporary fix, and plan the replacement for a day visit.
Ask for a replacement quote
A technician visits, measures and writes the quote. The visit fee is told to you when you book.
