AC repair

A technician reads the system, finds the failed part and writes the price before repairing it.

Signs it needs a technician

  • Warm air from the vents

  • The outdoor fan hums but does not spin

  • Ice on the copper line or the indoor coil

  • Water around the air handler or in the drain pan

  • The breaker trips when the system starts

  • It runs all day and the house still will not cool

The visit

What happens at the visit

  1. 01

    Step 1: Arrive and listen

The technician asks what the system did before it stopped, and when.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Diagnose

Pressures, temperatures, electrical readings and the drain line, written down.

  3. 03

    Step 3: A written price

The part, the labor and any refrigerant, before repair work starts. You say yes or no.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Repair

Done with the part on the truck when we have it. If we do not, you hear how long the part takes.

  5. 05

    Step 5: Run and test

The system runs before the technician leaves, and the readings go on your invoice.

The price

What moves a repair price

  • The part

A capacitor and a compressor are different repairs.

  • Refrigerant

The type, and how much the system needs.

  • System age

Older systems may need more than one part.

  • Access

An attic, a closet or a roof changes the work.

  • The hour

Nights and weekends carry an after-hours fee, stated before we roll.

  • Warranty

We check the serial number for a manufacturer parts warranty.

Questions about repairs

The coil or the copper line has ice on it. What do I do?

Turn the system off at the thermostat and leave the fan on if you can, so the ice melts. Check the air filter. Then call: running it frozen can damage the compressor.

Should I repair it or replace it?

If a repair is small next to a new system, repair it. If the system is old and the repairs are stacking up, we show you both and you choose.

How often should I change the filter?

Check it monthly in summer. A 1-inch filter is usually changed every one to three months; follow the size and the label.

Do you work on every brand?

We work on the common residential brands. Tell dispatch the make and model, and say so if the part is hard to find.

AC down right now?

Dispatch answers all night and gives you a time before the truck rolls.
